Practice Safe Stress
Use the acronym NURSE to remember to do self care. We all need to learn to practice self care in order to be healthy and be a healing source in the world. Use this simple technique to maintain your healthy lifestyle:
• N stands for nurturing concepts by caring for ourselves. Nutrition is very important. Choose a Mediterranean diet of plant-based foods, incorporating fruits and vegetables, fish, and some lean meat. Cut back or eliminate sugar, high fructose corn syrup, transfats, preservatives, and artificial sweeteners; all of these can lead to obesity and chronic inflammatory diseases. (Take ‘white food’ out of your diet.)
• U relates to understanding yourself, how you relate to people and things. Make a concerted and ongoing effort to be honest about your feelings. Look at the places where you’re suffering and anxious. Do the work to make the changes in your thoughts and actions to have a happier life.
• R signifies rest, renewal, and relaxation. It’s important to slow down, sleep, rest, and stop the spinning busy-ness. Step out of life and be with yourself. Seek out solitude to reclaim yourself.
• S relates to spirituality and stress management. Slow down; drive the speed limit. Take the time to be aware of where you are. Take a deep breath. Practice meditation; quiet your mind and listen gently to where you are inside. Take a moment and take frequent breaths; this is vital to physical and emotional health.
• E stands for Exercise. This helps relax your emotions and increases well-being and feelings of health. Exercise helps keep your body strong to deal with stress. Try exercising with a partner. Do it every day; be a model to your family.

There are many additional ways to relieve stress, such as participation in the arts, practicing kindness, forgiveness, and patience. Learn to amplify gratitude and laughter every day. These internal healing forces are good medicine, and will contribute to improving your life and relationships, as well as relieving stress.
